Open Gate programs take place every Sunday. Doors open at 12:30pm.
All our programs take place in the Fellowship Hall of Bering Memorial UMC. The street entrance to our Fellowship Hall is located on Mulberry Street.
Hawthorne Dinner is a family-style, home cooked meal served at every Sunday at 2pm.
Snacks are available between 12:30pm and 2pm.
Creative Arts Programming
Before Hawthorne Dinner, creative arts programs are offered. These include poetry slams, art contests, and a future jewelry making class.
Clients can pick up a hygiene pack each week.
Hygiene pack needs vary depending on time of year, but we always try to ensure that they have soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, a toothbrush, a razor, shaving cream, deodorant, lotion, and feminine hygiene products for our clients that need it. In addition to these items, we also like to include a bottle of water and some non-perishable snacks (granola bars, raisins, beef jerky, cheese and cracker packs, oatmeal packets, etc.) During the warmer months we try to include bug spray, baby wipes and sunscreen as well, as many of our clients do stay on the street.
Backpacks are an important way for our clients to keep their belongings with them. Our clients are eligible to receive a brand-new, high-quality backpack once every 3 months.
Partnering with Other Services
We partner with other agencies in the area to bring services directly to our clients, such as on-site HIV/STI testing.
Resource and Empowerment Table
We offer our clients information and referral to outside organizations that can better meet their needs at our resource and empowerment table, which has updated information regarding services offered at other agencies that help communities in need.
Clients can receive 1 complete outfit each week, as supplies are available. We work hard to keep our closet full of clothing items of various sizes with help from donations.
